This standard has been canceled; Structural and Mechanical Design does not use this standard anymore. The standard is specific to hardware flown on the space shuttle which is no longer an available launch platform. Additionally, the relevant technical experts have reviewed the standard and are comfortable with its deletion. Standard 561 states "all hardware designs shall utilize MSFC-STD-486."
