This NASA Technical Standard establishes uniform design and verification requirements for spaceflight valves. Historically, valve design and verification requirements have been an accumulation of requirements levied by various disciplines to satisfy higher level system performance. Lessons learned have shown that this approach results in requirement gaps and inconsistently applied requirements that have led to costly valve failures. The objective of this Standard is to create a single, consistent source of requirements to be applied to valves to ensure that valves are properly designed and verified for their applications.
